Englewood (New Jersey): Cheer on your favorite local celebrity clergical chef at the Partnership for Healthy Eating’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Eat Healthy’s ‘Cook-Off for Healthy Eating’. The competition takes place on Thursday, August 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, located at 113 Engle Street in Englewood, New Jersey. The cook-off, presented by The Community Chest and Alstede Farms as a project of the Partnership for Healthy Eating, is free and open to the public.
Clergy from Englewood — Reverend Preston Thompson from Ebenezer Baptist Church and Reverend Dr. William Allport of St. Paul’s Church — and Tenafly — Rabbi Jordan Millstein of Temple Sinai of Bergen County — will use farm-fresh produce to create delicious culinary masterpieces of entrées in under one hour. Prominent local restaurant owners and chefs, including chef Alexander Gorant from Axia Restaurant and baker Ayla Uram will judge the cuisine using unique criteria.
“This is an opportunity to learn more about our local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) food collaborative in Englewood. Guests can savor the season’s harvest with a variety of farm-fresh produce. They will also receive tips, recipes and techniques to use to make healthy eating a part of your every day routine,” said Executive Director Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer of The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County.

A Collaborative Effort
The ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors Eat Healthy’ campaign is a collaboration with The Community Chest, Alstede Farms, and the Partnership for Healthy Eating to offer neighbors fresh vegetables grown in the area. Working together, they will implement the CSA in Englewood this fall.
The public may sign up to receive a box of freshly harvested, quality vegetables, weighing 12 to 15 pounds, available for pick-up at the Alstede Farms’ booth weekly on Fridays from September 9 to November 4 at Depot Square, located at North Dean Street at East Demarest Avenue in Englewood, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Patrons may sign up for the full nine weeks of the program for $37 per week by registering here: www.harvie.farm/profile/
Participating churches will identify people in financial need to receive assistance to purchase the fresh vegetables. Neighbors may support these subsidies by making a donation to The Community Chest’s CSA Program.
