Thiruvananthapuram, September 19: The prestigious UK Royal College of Pathology has honoured Dr. Anil Sukumaran, a renowned dentist who hails from Thiruvananthapuram with the FRC Path degree. The laurel comes in recognition of the comprehensive contributions Dr Anil Sukumaran has made in the dental education services arena. Dr. Anil is the first periodontist from India to receive this honour, which was hitherto given only to pathology practitioners.
Dr. Anil Sukumaran, secured the first rank in BDS from the Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram, and was recognised as the best outgoing student in 1984, Post completion of his MDS degree in 1989, he has served in various dental colleges as faculty and was involved in research. From 1999-2002, he obtained his PhD from the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Anil has won many awards in India and abroad, and has also been awarded the Golden Quill for Research from the King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, in 2012.
A paper on the link between Covid-19 and gum diseases and another on concerns about monkeypox have gained international attention. Currently working as Senior Consultant at Qatar Hamad Medical Corporation, Dr. Anil Sukumaran also serves as Associate Professor at the Pushapagiri Research Centre. Dr. Anil Sukumaran has been leading projects aimed roping in the potential of young researchers in India so as to connect various fields with the health sector.
