The BJP government at the Center has announced a gift for the sugarcane farmers of the country. The cabinet has decided to increase the FRP of sugarcane. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur informed that the government has increased the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane by Rs 10 per quintal to Rs 315 per quintal for the 2023-24 season.
Anurag Thakur informed that the cabinet has approved the highest ever fair and remunerative price of Rs 315 per quintal for sugarcane farmers for the sugar season 2023-24. This decision will benefit five crore sugarcane farmers and their dependents. Along with this, five lakh workers employed in sugar mills and related ancillary activities will also get its benefits. He said that the sugarcane season starts from October. The minimum price of sugarcane was Rs 210 per quintal in 2014-15.
‘PM-Pranam’ scheme approved
The Cabinet approved a new scheme ‘PM-PRANAM’ (Promotion of Alternative Nutrients for Agricultural Management) to promote alternative fertilizers. Fertilizer Minister Mansukh Mandaviya gave this information after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 during the budget for 2023-24. Under the scheme, the Center will encourage states to promote alternative fertilizers and reduce chemical fertilizers.
Giving an example, he explained that suppose a state is using 10 lakh tonnes of conventional fertilizers and if it reduces its consumption by 3 lakh tonnes, the savings in subsidy would be Rs 3,000 crore. He said that out of the subsidy savings, the Center would give 50 per cent, or Rs 1,500 crore, to the state to promote the use of alternative fertilizers and other development works.
