Christian-Muslim-Hindu-Buddhist-Jewish-Baha’i-Pagan religious leaders of northwestern Nevada will unite in a candlelight vigil and pray together in Reno on March six, seeking peaceful resolution of violent armed conflict in Eastern Europe.
Being jointly coordinated by Saint Catherine of Siena Episcopal Church Rector the Reverend Thomas W. Blake and distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, this candlelight vigil will include prayers from diverse religious traditions in English, Spanish, Arabic, Sanskrit, Pali, Hebrew and Persian for peace and ending of war in Eastern Europe.
Zed and Blake also urged area’s faithful to fast on March six urging the God to save Eastern Europe and the world from the insanity of war and pray for the re-establishment of peace and human solidarity.
Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Reno today, said that despite our seriously different traditions, religious leaders of northwestern Nevada are coming together in a remarkable interfaith gesture to pray together in an effort to stop the war, end the sufferings and restore peace. We, the religious leaders, are all heartbroken with this armed conflict in Eastern Europe and we seek the mercy of God, Zed added.
Father Blake points out that dignity and safety of humans should not be endangered, human life should be protected, and we all should respect each other and believe in brotherhood. Political/military leaders involved should seriously relook into their conscience and stop further sufferings of humanity. Disputes should be resolved through non-violent means and not through armed conflicts; and we plead with world leaders to work for peace and ending the hostilities. We shall pray for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and for the wisdom of politicians/military-leaders.
