Karan Johar to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts

Bollywood filmmaker and director Karan Johar has added another feather to his cap. Karan Johar has been invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts. Announcing new invitees, the Academy has invited 398 artistes and officials to join the organization this year, including stalwarts of Indian cinema. Karan Johar is among the few Indians who have been invited.

In fact, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts announced a new list of 398 new members joining it this year. Karan Johar was also invited to become a member of the Academy, among international stars such as Taylor Swift and Ke Hui Quan. This prestigious honor certainly acknowledges Johar’s extraordinary contribution to the Indian film industry.

Among the Indians to be invited to become members of the Academy along with Karan Johar are ‘RRR’ actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, directors Mani Ratnam and Chaitanya Tamhane, music directors MM Keeravani and Chandrabose, casting directors KK Senthil Kumar and documentary Producer Shaunak Sen. Also in the list is Bela Bazaria.

The Academy, regarded as the apex body of the Hollywood film industry, issues a round of invitations every year. Only Academy members can vote for Oscar winners. Next year’s Oscars is scheduled to take place on March 10. Academy CEO Bill Kramer said the Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals to its membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a significant impact on the art and science of motion pictures and on film fans around the world.
