Get Fresh Produce in The Community Chest’s ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors Eat Healthy’ Campaign

Bergen County, NJ — The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County wants neighbors in the region to eat healthy, be healthy and stay healthy.  In conjunction with the Partnership for Healthy Eating, The Chest is launching The ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors Eat Healthy’ campaign to make this happen by offering its neighbors fresh vegetables grown in the area.

Working with Alstede Farms in Chester, New Jersey, The Community Chest and the Partnership for Healthy Eating will bring a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) food collaborative to Englewood, New Jersey to service the area this fall.  The Community Chest invites the public to sign up for this service to receive a box of freshly harvested, quality vegetables from September 9 through November 4.  The box of fresh vegetables, weighing 12 to 15 pounds, will be available for pick-up at the Alstede Farms’ booth weekly on Fridays from September 9 to October 28 at Depot Square, located at North Dean Street at East Demarest Avenue in Englewood, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  On November 4, the final pickup of vegetables will be held at St. Paul’s Church, located at 113 Engle Street in Englewood, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Patrons may sign up for the full nine weeks of the program for $37 per week by registering here: www.harvie.farm/profile/alstede-farms.

Not sure how to prepare these fresh vegetables?  No problem.  Alstede Farms and The Community Chest will provide tips and delicious recipes about how to prepare and eat these freshly harvested vegetables.  The Community Chest also plans to partner with neighbors to offer classes showcasing their favorite recipes of these foods.

Clergy in the area will identify people in financial need eligible to receive assistance to purchase the fresh vegetables.  Neighbors are invited to support these subsidies by making a donation to The Community Chest’s CSA Program.  Contributions of any size may be made by check to The Community Chest, located at 122 South Van Brunt Street, 2nd Floor, Englewood, NJ 07631.  Enter CSA Program in the memo line.  Donations are tax-deductible, as permitted by law.
