Security agencies have beefed up security in Imphal Valley following the Independence Day strike call by some banned organizations in Manipur. The police have also launched search operations in several areas of Manipur. During this, a large quantity of ammunition has been seized.

For the Independence Day celebrations, BSF, Police and Assam Rifles personnel are making their preparations for the march past. “Rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations were held at the Peace Ground in Tuibaung area of Churachandpur district on Saturday,” an official said.
Violence took place for the first time in Manipur on May 3
Caste violence first started in Manipur on May 3. The ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts to protest against the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST). About 80 thousand people participated in the march on the same day. During this violence broke out. So far more than 160 people have lost their lives in the violence and hundreds have been injured.
