Taliban detained 18 workers of an Afghan NGO

Kabul: The Taliban has detained 18 employees, including a foreign national, of a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Afghanistan. The Taliban had started cracking down on NGOs after seizing power in the country two years ago. They imposed stringent restrictions, including banning Afghan girls from studying beyond the sixth grade and barring them from working for NGOs.

The International Assistance Mission said the Taliban detained 18 NGO workers twice this month from its office in central Ghor province. They have been taken to Kabul. Afghan officials have not yet responded to this development.
