After four months of quarantine, male cheetahs Vayu and Agni shifted to Boma

After four months of quarantine, male leopards Vayu and Agni have been shifted to the Boma enclosure today. Officials informed about this. Boma is located in the Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh.

The cheetah reintroduction project completed one year on Sunday. In view of this, male cheetahs Gaurav and Shaurya were also shifted from the quarantine enclosure to the boma. Cheetah Reintroduction Project i.e. the plan to re-establish cheetahs in India, which has completed one year on 17th September.

An official release on Monday said, ‘Vayu and Agni were released in soft release boma on Monday following the protocol after completion of health check-up. Both the leopards are healthy. Both were in the quarantine boma since June 27. The release process was successfully completed by the team of veterinary officers in the presence of senior officials.

12 more cheetahs reached KNP from South Africa in February

Under the cheetah reintroduction project, eight Namibian cheetahs, including five females and three males, were released into the KNP enclosures on September 17 last year. In February this year, 12 more cheetahs arrived in KNP from South Africa. Officials said nine leopards, including three cubs, have died since March, while 14 leopards and one cub are in healthy condition. Cheetahs were declared extinct in India in 1952. However, now the situation has improved.
