New Delhi . Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today chaired the 31st meeting of the Northern Regional Council in Amritsar, Punjab. The meeting was attended by the Chief Ministers of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, Lieutenant Governors of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Administrator of Chandigarh, senior ministers of the member states, Union Home Secretary, Secretaries, Inter State Council Secretariat, Chief Secretaries of the member states and Northern Region. The event was attended by other senior officials from States and Union Territories and Central Ministries and Departments.
The Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the last 5 years, the role of regional councils has changed from advisory to action platforms. He said that the Northern Regional Council has an important place from the point of view of development and security of the country and is an important part of the country’s 21 With 100 percent land and 13 percent population, more than 35 percent of food grains are produced in the northern region. Shah said most of the personnel in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Army to guard the country’s borders come from the states and union territories included in the Northern Territorial Council.
The Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has succeeded in cracking down on narcotics and terrorism. He said that the Modi government is committed to strengthening the security arrangements on the border. He said that anti-drone system will soon be deployed on our borders. The Home Minister requested all the member states of the Northern Regional Council to resolve their disputes regarding water sharing with an open mind and mutual discussion. Describing issues like cooperation, drop out rate of school children and malnutrition as priority, Amit Shah asked all the member states to pay special attention to them. Not even a single child should remain malnourished in the country. It is the responsibility of all of us to reduce the school dropout rate. He said that giving impetus to the cooperative movement will help in taking more than 60 crore people of the country towards prosperity. Shah requested all the member states to adopt natural and organic farming and said that this would greatly benefit the farmers of the country.
While assuring that the Center will provide all possible assistance to the state government to deal with the severe flood situation in Himachal Pradesh, the Home Minister said that the entire country stands with Himachal Pradesh in this hour of crisis. On the call of Amit Shah, the Northern Regional Council welcomed the spectacular success of Chandrayaan-3, the global appreciation of India’s leadership in G20 summit and world welfare and the historic Women’s Reservation Bill passed by the Parliament.
