New Delhi: The meeting was held under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind on the issue of holding simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly.
The suggestions were submitted to the committee by the Law Commission in the meeting held on Wednesday . The first suggestion in this suggestion is that after the fall of the government, the tenure of the Lok Sabha or Assembly is less than 2 years. So an all-party government should be formed. It will be called national government or provincial government.
In the second model, it is said that if the government falls, then mid-term elections should be held not for 5 years but for the remaining term.
The Law Commission has made it clear that holding simultaneous elections does not affect the basic structure of the Constitution, the federal structure or the democratic system. The committee has also suggested that the new process can be implemented from the time of Lok Sabha elections in 2029 or 2034. For this, the government will have to extend the tenure of many states. At the same time, the tenure of some state governments may also have to be reduced. For this the government will have to make special provisions.
The Commission has suggested to the Committee that in an all-party government, representation should be ensured on the basis of the number of members in the Lok Sabha or the Legislative Assembly. All the elected representatives in the House. They should be represented in the government in the same proportion. Law Commission Chairman Justice Ruturaj Awasthi, Member Professor Anand Paliwal, and Member Secretary KT Biswal presented a 45-minute presentation before the committee. Former President Ramnath Govind as Chairman, Home Minister Amit Shah, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Subhash Kashyap were present in this committee as members.
