Australia captain Meg Lanning has surprised the cricket world by retiring from all formats of international cricket at the age of 31. Meg Lanning made her international debut in 2010 and represented Australia in 241 matches.
Meg Lanning said that it is the right time to step away from international cricket after a career spanning 13 years. After the retirement of Meg Lanning, the Australian team will be searching for her successor as it has to tour India next month for a series of different formats. Alyssa Healy suffered a dog bite injury in the Women’s Big Bash League, from which she is recovering.
What did Meg Lanning say
It is difficult to take the decision to walk away from international cricket. But I felt this was the right time. I am very fortunate to have enjoyed international cricket for 13 years. But I know that this is the right decision to move forward into something new.
Meg Lanning thanked her teammates and fans while taking the decision of retirement. Lanning last represented the Australian team in the T20 World Cup in South Africa in February. Then she took a break of six months from the game due to health reasons.
