After retirement from cricket, more time for military service: Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has clarified that his plan is to spend more time with the Indian Army after retirement.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is expected to play his last IPL season in 2024. Last season, he led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title by defeating Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this, Chennai Super Kings have reached Mumbai Indians’ record of the most IPL achievements.

Dhoni holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the 106 Para TA Battalion of the Indian Territorial Army. He was awarded this honorary rank by the Indian Army in 2011 for his services to the country as a cricketer. He qualified as an O Paratrooper in 2015, after completing parachute training from the Indian Army Aircraft at Agra Training Camp. In August 2019, he completed two weeks of service in the Territorial Army of Jammu and Kashmir.

He made it clear that his biggest dream in his youth was never to become a cricketer but to become a soldier. The continuation of that desire has now brought Dhoni to the decision to do military service after retirement
