Dense fog hits Delhi; 100 flights affected; 10 diverted, many canceled

Delhi was hit hard by dense fog on Sunday. This affected 100 flights while ten flights were diverted and landed in Jaipur. A total of 10 flights, including 2 international flights, were diverted to Jaipur between 4.30 am and 12 noon, an official said.Nearly 100 flights were delayed at the Delhi airport as dense fog disrupted operations due to low visibility. Many flights had to be cancelled. A significant impact of fog was also seen on railway traffic.

There was dense to very dense fog in Delhi Airport and its surrounding areas from 4 am to 10 am. Due to this, aircraft movement has been disrupted. According to airport sources, ten planes were diverted to Jaipur as it was not possible to land the planes due to fog. Nearly 100 flights were delayed while several had to be canceled due to bad weather, an official said. Sources said visibility at the airport was almost zero between 4 am and 10 am.

Sources said that no flight could take off between 4 am and 10 am.Not only this, only 15 flights could land during this period.It is noteworthy that in normal weather conditions, Delhi Airport handles about 60 take offs and landings per hour.Sources also claimed that 10 flights were diverted.These flights had to be diverted only because the pilots concerned were not trained for CAT III landings.Landing in low visibility conditions is referred to as CAT III.

An airline said that their flight schedules may be affected due to the weather. Among the affected flights, Air India flight AI 185 from the national capital to Vancouver (Canada) was rescheduled. It was to leave early in the morning. Passengers had to wait inside the plane for several hours before it could disembark. The flight scheduled to depart at 5 a.m. could not take off due to dense fog. Now the flight is expected to depart at around 11:30 pm. During this period, arrangements were made to accommodate the passengers.

Delhi airport said at 8.38 am that flights may be affected due to dense fog. Therefore, passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned with the flight. Airline ‘Indigo’ said at 6.17 am on ‘X’ that flights may be affected due to weather challenges. Vistara said on ‘X’ at 6.38 am that flights from Delhi may be affected due to dense fog.

‘Akasa Air’ said at 12:12 pm – Flights have been affected due to fog in Delhi, Chennai, Varanasi, Bagdogra and Lucknow.Let us tell you that during December 25-28 last year, flights at Delhi airport were affected due to dense fog. Then around 60 flights of various airlines were diverted. At the same time, due to fog, more than twenty trains have reached New Delhi Railway Station late from their scheduled time.
