Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala women empowerment activities appreciated by UN Women representatives. The group assessed that the gender budget that allocates special funds for the advancement of women should be taken up and women in Kerala are far ahead in many fields compared to other states. This was informed in a discussion with Minister Veena George.
The Minister described the activities that Kerala is doing for the empowerment of women. The state had signed an MoU with UN Women to provide technical assistance to the Gender Park. Accordingly, the meeting decided to strengthen the further activities centered on the park. UN Women also supported the Safe City Project and the Gender Data Hub.
UN Women India Representative Susan Ferguson, UN Women Safe City Initiative Global Advisor Laura Capobianco, Program Specialist Paolomi Pall, UN Women India State Technical Consultant Dr. Peeja Rajan, Principal Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph, Director of Women and Child Development Department Haritha V Kumar, Mayor of Kozhikode Bina Philip and others also participated in the meeting.
