New Delhi: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has summoned 11 Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi. Through this, these people have been asked to appear before the department on 23 February. Congress leaders are accused of destroying public properties in Guwahati during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. According to officials, the summons was issued on Monday under Section 41A (3) of CrPC. Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Congress Party General Secretary KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh Alwar, Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Bora, MP Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia and others are to be questioned.

Apart from this, summons have also been sent toYouth Congress National President BV Srinivas and National Students Union of India (NSUI) in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar. Kaikhose Simte, police inspector of CID, Guwahati, wrote in the summons, ‘You are directed to take notice of the ongoing investigation. You will have to appear at the CID police station on 23rd February at 11:30 am. There has been a reaction on this from Assam Congress. It said that he would appear before the CID as per instructions. However, this was not necessarily true as none of the names mentioned in the summons had been involved in any kind of sabotage.

Debabrata Saikia said, ‘Cases have been registered against Congress leaders in various police stations across the state. We are being asked to appeal. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed and now the CID has called us. He said that all these cases could have been clubbed together. After this you would have called us for questioning. Saikia said that this is clearly an attempt to harass the opposition. He said, ‘Earlier, cases were registered against AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal for his communal remarks. During this time, the police had brought all the cases together at one place. But now they are calling us here and there and by doing so they want to humiliate us. His intentions are clearly visible.
