Russian President gifted Russian made car to Kim Jong Un; Broke UNSC rule

Russian President Vladimir Putin has gifted a Russian-made car to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This shows the strong mutual relations between the two leaders.

The gift is a clear demonstration of the special personal relationship between the two leaders, the local news agency quoted the newspaper as saying.

Russia has informed about gifting the vehicle to Kim Yo-jong, secretary of Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party and sister of the North Korean leader. Kim Yo-jong thanked the Russian side for Putin’s gift to Kim Jong Un.

In September last year, Putin had shown his vehicle, the Aurus Senate limousine, to Kim Jong Un during his visit to the Vostochny space port in Russia for the summit. Putin also made him travel in a Russian-made luxury vehicle.

Russian President’s gift to Kim Jong Un may be a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, which ban the supply of luxury goods, including automobiles, to North Korea.

Kim Jong Un has made public appearances in a variety of vehicles, including a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class vehicle, including a limousine, in violation of international sanctions over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by senior North Korean government officials in charge of technology, fisheries and sports affairs has left for Russia. A delegation led by North Korean Vice Fisheries Minister Son Song-kuk left for Russia on Sunday to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the fisheries sector.

North Korea’s Vice Sports Minister Oh Kwang-hyeok has flown to Russia to attend a ceremony to sign the 2024 sports exchange protocol between the two countries.
