New Delhi: Before the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Congress signed a large-scale seat sharing agreement in alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. However, the Congress-led INDIA alliance has not yet finalized the agreement between Shiv Sena (UBT) in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (SCP) and Trinamool Congress in Bengal.
Meanwhile, today i.e. on Tuesday, the news of cross voting for BJP in Rajya Sabha elections has troubled the parties of INDIA alliance, especially Congress. However, SP is also facing this problem in Uttar Pradesh.
BJP won in Himachal
Congress has faced a crushing defeat in Himachal Pradesh. Here the BJP candidate has won. Whereas the Congress candidate had to face defeat. Candidates of both the parties got equal number of votes here. On the other hand, in Uttar Pradesh, BJP has hoisted the flag of victory on all eight seats.
All Congress candidates won in Karnataka
The results of Karnataka Rajya Sabha elections have come out in which Congress has won 3 seats and BJP has won one seat. Let us tell you that five candidates were in the fray for four Rajya Sabha seats of Karnataka. All three Congress candidates Ajay Maken, Syed Nasir Hussain, GC Chandrashekhar and BJP candidate Narayansa Bhadage have won.
After the victory, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, ‘This victory shows the unity and integrity of the Congress. I thank all the MLAs, party workers and media. I am very happy to inform that all the Congress candidates have won. I thank all the voters, CM, party workers and All India Congress President.
According to media reports, the opposition seems to be facing a big blow after cross voting by six Congress MLAs in Himachal Pradesh, three independent MLAs and seven SP MLAs in Uttar Pradesh. Unexpectedly, BJP candidates got 16 votes. Now the party seems to be successful in claiming one additional seat in every state and enhancing its prestige before the Lok Sabha elections.
Is BJP’s 370 planning successful?
There are also whispers of cross-voting in Karnataka, another Congress-ruled state, where BJP ally Janata Dal (Secular) has fielded a fifth candidate. This can be seen as a challenge for the INDIA alliance before the Lok Sabha elections, in which the BJP has set a target of winning 370 seats. The report said that if Congress is defeated in this election, it will become more difficult to negotiate seat-share agreements in other states. Congress is already under pressure in other states including Bengal.
This is the condition of Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh
This year, elections have been held for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, with 252 MLAs (plus the votes of 18 allies), BJP is assured of seven seats, while SP, with 108 MLAs and a handful of allies, is hoping to regain three seats. It seems that due to the cross voting of 7 SP MLAs and the support of Jayant Choudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal, BJP can also win the eighth seat. RLD is officially still a member of the INDIA alliance, but it is expected to join the BJP-led alliance NDA soon.
The Chief Whip in the Assembly and three SP MLAs were seen with Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak during voting, after which SP has suffered a major setback. However, a tweet has been made by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding this entire incident. In this, Akhilesh has written that the third seat of our Rajya Sabha was actually a test to identify true friends. To know who is with PDA at heart and who is against backward classes, Dalits and minorities by conscience. Now everything is clear, this is the victory of the third seat.
Congress got a shock in Himachal Pradesh
Congress came to power in the hill state of Himachal only two years ago. The party won 40 out of 68 assembly seats, which was a rare victory for the party. BJP got only 25 seats in the assembly elections. Congress made Abhishek Singhvi its candidate from here, because his tenure from Bengal seat was ending. Singhvi needed only 35 votes for confirmation as Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh. However, six Congress MLAs (and three independent MLAs) have voted for the BJP candidate, after which the BJP and the ruling party are now tied on 34 votes each.
What was the use of Congress’s fencing in Karnataka Rajya Sabha elections?
Four seats became vacant in Congress ruled Karnataka. It was expected that the ruling party could claim the MLAs it has without any fanfare, as it has 85 seats along with BJP and its ally Janata Dal (Secular). Whereas Congress has 134 MLAs. BJP needs 45 votes to retain its one seat. The biggest challenge was to field Kupendra Reddy of BJP-backed JDS, who can win on the basis of second preference votes.
Apart from these, 41 seats have been filled unopposed. The list of new MPs includes former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, BJP chief JP Nadda and Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnav and L Murugan as well as former Congressman Ashok Chavan, who is now in the BJP.
