New Delhi: A high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind will submit a report to President Draupadi Murmu today on ‘One Country, One Election’. Various news agencies reported.
Currently, PTI reported that the panel may recommend amendments to five articles of the Constitution to enable simultaneous elections in the country, though no official announcement has been made yet. The proposed report will also focus on creating a single electoral roll for conducting Lok Sabha, state assembly and local government elections.
The committee, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, was formed in September last year to recommend and conduct simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities and panchayats keeping in view the existing constitutional framework. Then the committee sent letters to different parties of the country, big and small.
