Chennai: Dhoni will not be the captain of Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League matches. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as captain, the team has announced. Rituraj Gaekwad will lead Chennai Super Kings in this year’s IPL matches. Chennai Super Kings termed Dhoni’s demotion as the end of an era.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings since the first season of Indian Premier League which started in 2008. Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain in the beginning of the 2022 season, but later Dhoni returned to the captaincy. Dhoni is now stepping down as the captain of CSK after 16 years as the ‘head’ of Tamil fans.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy also helped Chennai Super Kings win the most titles in the IPL. Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings team has lifted the IPL trophy five times so far. In last year’s IPL match as well, Chennai Super Kings were the winners after defeating Gujarat Titans led by Dhoni in the final.
