Jammu and Kashmir: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s party DPAP candidate GM Saroori filed nomination papers on Tuesday. He filled his nomination form at the District Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kathua. During this time, DPAP supporters gathered in large numbers. Slogans were raised loudly in support of GM Saroori.
Ghulam Mohammad (GM) Saroori was a four-time MLA in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. GM Saroori is also currently the Vice President of DPAP. He remained associated with Congress for a long time. Along with Ghulam Nabi, he resigned from Congress in August 2022 and joined DPAP.
Saroori has been the MLA from Inderwal constituency of Kishtwar district from 2002 to 2018. In 2008, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Tourism, Forest, School Education, Social Welfare and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution. He also served as the Minister of Mechanical Engineering and Roads and Buildings from 2009–2010.
This time the contest on Udhampur seat is going to be very interesting. Dr. Jitendra Singh is contesting from BJP for the third time from this parliamentary constituency. Earlier, he had won this seat in 2014 and 2019. He has filed his nomination on March 21.
Chaudhary Lal Singh has entered the election fray from Congress. He has recently returned to Congress after ten years. He was elected MP from the same seat in 2004 and 2009. According to sources, he may file his nomination on Wednesday. All the leaders have started the election campaign at a fast pace to get the public to support them. A round of election meetings is going on in every village and city.
Voting for Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Lok Sabha seat will be held in the first phase on April 19. The notification has been issued on March 20. March 27 is the last date for filing nominations for this seat. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed as March 30.
Voting for the Jammu Lok Sabha seat will be held in the second phase of elections on April 26. The notification will be issued on March 28 and April 4 will be the last date for filing nominations. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 8 April.
After this, voting will be held in the third phase on Anantnag-Rajori seat on May 7. The notification will be issued on April 12 and April 19 will be the last date for filing nominations. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 22 April. Voting for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat will be held in the fourth phase on May 13. Voting for Baramulla seat will be held in the fifth phase of elections on May 20.
