Kozhikode: Scholar and Qur’an orator Shafi Saquafi Mundambra was honoured with the prestigious Markaz Holy Qur’an Harbinger Award. This esteemed accolade was bestowed upon him by the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, during the Markaz Quran congregation and Hifz Convocation, recognizing his commendable dedication to delivering comprehensive lectures on various chapters of the Quran over the past 24 years.
Distinguished for his unique approach, Shafi Saquafi has endeared himself to audiences by delivering the actual teachings of the Holy Quran with accessible commentary, resonating profoundly with scholars and lay people alike. Noteworthy contributions include his series of Talks on the Qur’an at the Masjidul Fatah in Kondotti and in the Cheruwadi lecture series in the Malappuram district. Since 1999, he has been fervently engaged in delivering thousands of lectures domestically and internationally. Shafi Saquafi holds positions such as the President of Areekode Majmau Institutions, Head of the Qur’an Faculty at Majmau Da’awa College, and Chairman of Markaz Saquafi Shura.
Also recognized at the ceremony were individuals who have made significant strides in Quranic studies. Dr Muhammed Abdul Hakkim Azhari,and Hafiz Abubakar Saquafi Pannoor, the first students of the Markaz Academy of Qur’an Studies, founded in 1987, was bestowed with the esteemed Markaz Hifz Pioneer Award. The Markaz Inspire Award was granted to Hafiza Ayisha Esa, a Markaz Zahratul Quran student who has represented India internationally in various Qur’an competitions in countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
