Dehradun: With rising temperatures in Uttarakhand, 46 incidents of wild fire occurred in the last 24 hours in which 53.15 hectares of forest was burnt to ashes. According to the information received from the Forest Department, the economic loss due to this has been estimated at Rs 1,09,700. So far, 477 incidents of fire have been reported in the state from November 1, 2023 to April 23, 2024, in which 570.07 hectares of forest was burnt to ashes and an economic loss of Rs 12,40,151 was caused.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi reviewed the situation on Tuesday and directed officials to expedite measures to stop it. All District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police and Forest Officers participated in the meeting through video conference while Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu and Ranjit Kumar Sinha were present. In the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the officials to expedite measures to stop the increasing incidents of forest fires. He said that as soon as information about forest fire was received, instructions were given to stop it immediately. He asked people to create awareness in this regard so that incidents of forest fire can be prevented.
