New Delhi: The Election Commission has canceled the nomination of BJP candidate Debashish Dhar from Birbhum Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal. According to media reports, the BJP candidate had not submitted the no objection certificate with his nomination. Due to which the Election Commission took action to cancel the nomination. Debasish Dhar is a former IPS officer and he had resigned from the post of IPS only last month.
After the Bengal Assembly elections held in 2021, Mamata Banerjee’s government had also suspended Debashish Dhar. Actually, in the year 2021, Debashish Dhar was the SP of Cooch Behar. There, four people were killed in firing by security forces after the uproar during voting in Sitalkuchi district. When Mamata government suspended Debashish Dhar as soon as it took charge after the elections. On Birbhum seat, Debashish Dhar was facing TMC’s Shatabdi Roy, who is the outgoing MP from here. Birbhum is considered a stronghold of TMC. However, this time due to TMC leader Anubrata Mandal being in jail, TMC was expected to face a tough fight in Birbhum. However, the BJP has suffered a major setback here due to the cancellation of the nomination of the BJP candidate.
