Bhubaneswar: Congress candidate from Odisha’s Puri Lok Sabha constituency, Sucharita Mohanty, has returned her ticket after the party could not provide enough funds to contest the elections. Elections in Odisha are on May 13
In a letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, Mohanty said that the party’s state leadership has asked her to shoulder the funds to face the polls herself and she cannot. After this she returned the ticket.
This time, the party has asked the contesting candidates to find the money for their own expenses. The Income Tax Department had placed restrictions on several accounts of the Congress following income tax irregularities. Congress will also have to pay billions of rupees as fine. The Congress workers, who collected a huge amount for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, have clarified that they cannot undertake any further collection.
