New Delhi: Wrestler Bajrang Poonia suffered another setback. He has also been suspended by United World Wrestling, the official body of wrestling. The action is for non-submission of samples for doping testing. The suspension period is till the end of this year.
Earlier, the National Anti-Doping Committee had suspended Bajrang Punia, but the Sports Authority of India had sanctioned Rs 9 lakh for Punia’s overseas training. The action of the National Anti-Doping Committee came after Punia did not provide a sample for doping testing.
Punia did not provide a sample during the selection trial at Sonipat on March 10. Punia will not be able to participate in any tournament or trials while the suspension is in effect. Punya will not be able to participate in the upcoming trials for the Olympics if the suspension remains, according to experts. Bajrang Punia was at the forefront of the wrestlers’ strike against BJP leader Brij Bhushan Charan Singh.
