The role of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters will be important in deciding who will form the next government in the country. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got their support. This time everyone’s eyes are on these reserved seats. In 2019, out of the total 131 Lok Sabha seats reserved for SC and ST across the country, BJP won 82. However, this time BJP faces a big challenge to repeat its performance on these seats. In 2019, there were 84 reserved seats for Scheduled Caste (SC). Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 17 seats reserved in this category, followed by West Bengal 10, Tamil Nadu seven and Bihar six seats.
BJP had won 46 seats and Congress had won six seats. Apart from this, TMC had won five, DMK and YSRCP had won four seats each. Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of ST reserved Lok Sabha seats in the country, six. After this, Jharkhand and Odisha have five seats each, and Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat have four seats each. The biggest victory on the ST reserved seat was registered by BJP’s Horen Singh Bae from the autonomous Lok Sabha seat in Assam by 2,39,626 votes. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s Mohammad Faizal PP had registered the smallest victory from Lakshadweep by just 823 votes.
