New Delhi: The number of people riding two-wheelers without helmets on the roads of the capital Delhi has increased by about 44 percent this year, which is a matter of concern. According to the data of Delhi Traffic Police, in the campaign launched against two-wheelers driving without helmets from January 1 to May 15, the traffic police has challaned 104,028 people driving two-wheelers without helmets this year. Whereas 72,313 cases were registered during the same period in 2023. In this respect, this year the number of people riding two-wheelers without helmets has increased by 31,715 as compared to last year which is about 44 percent more than last year.
The traffic police has done a comprehensive analysis of the top 10 traffic circles with the highest number of such challans for people riding two-wheelers without helmets during this period. The traffic police will identify the areas with the most frequent helmet-related violations and enforce the rules more strictly there. The traffic police has launched a massive awareness campaign to educate people about the importance of wearing helmets. This includes road shows, educational programmes in schools and colleges, social media campaigns and collaboration with other stakeholders. The traffic police has urged citizens to follow traffic rules and give priority to safety by wearing helmets.
