For the first time, a BJP government was formed in Odisha. Keonjhar MLA Mohan Charan Majhi took oath as the first Chief Minister of BJP today. Along with him, KV Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers of the state. With this, for the first time in Odisha, a government of one CM, two Deputy CMs and 13 ministers was formed.
The swearing-in ceremony started at 5 pm. The program was organized at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Bhubaneswar to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Charan Manjhi as the Chief Minister of Odisha. PM Modi was welcomed at the airport by Odisha Governor Raghubar Das and Mohan Charan Manjhi himself. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the program. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel were also present at the swearing-in ceremony. Former CM Naveen Patnaik also attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Majhi’s name was announced in the legislature party meeting held on June 11. BJP had appointed senior party leaders Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav as central observers for the election of the leader of the legislature party in Odisha. After being elected CM, Majhi said that after taking oath as Chief Minister, he will go to Puri to visit Lord Jagannath. Apart from Mohan Majhi, 16 other ministers also took oath. Ganesh Ram, Sampand Swain, Pradeep Balasamanta, Gokula Nand Malik, Suryabanshi Suraj were sworn in as Ministers of Independent Charge.
