New Delhi: Delhi’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has arrested retired ADG of Public Works Department (PWD) Anil Kumar Ahuja and the owners of two private firms in a major scam committed in Delhi’s government hospitals during the Corona epidemic. This information has been given by issuing a press release by the ACB.
During the Corona crisis, large-scale irregularities and corruption were revealed in the approval of work and execution of work orders. Public Works Department officials made payments to private firms and contractors on the basis of fake and forged bills for unfinished or unfinished work. This caused a loss of about Rs 200 crore to the government treasury. ACB is now investigating this matter.
The ACB had filed an FIR in June in this corruption case in Delhi government’s Lok Nayak Hospital. Ahuja was accused of making illegal payments to 10 contractors. After this, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena had ordered a detailed investigation against Ahuja.
It is worth mentioning that earlier in January, ACB had conducted raids in connection with the scam related to non-supply of standard quality medicines in 6 Delhi government hospitals including Lok Nayak Hospital, in which FIR was registered against many companies supplying medicines. ACB is also investigating that case.
Then, hospitals paid the companies for standard quality goods in return for the low quality goods supplied by them. In this case too, ACB had filed an FIR against 13 companies that supplied the goods. The 6 hospitals to which the goods were supplied include Loknayak, Janakpuri Super Specialty Hospital, Deendayal Upadhyaya, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial and Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. These hospitals had supplied goods of less than standard quality including medicines, cotton gloves, surgical items and many other things, in which a big scam came to light.
