Jammu-Kashmir Assembly Elections: The dates for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been announced. Meanwhile, the National Conference has released its manifesto for the elections. Many populist promises have been made to the public in this manifesto. The party’s vice-president Omar Abdullah has tried to woo the people of Kashmir by raising the promise of restoration of Article 370 in Kashmir in the manifesto.
The manifesto has made promises like repealing the PSA, releasing political prisoners, creating one lakh jobs and restoring dialogue between India and Pakistan. Apart from this, the party has made promises like 12 free cylinders to EWS, free public transport for women, return of Kashmiri Pandits.
The manifesto also talks about re-drafting the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act and releasing political prisoners. There is also a promise to repeal the Public Safety Act, solve the problem of electricity and water and give 200 units of free electricity.
The manifesto also promises to give Rs 5000 every month to 5000 to poor women, promote agriculture and horticulture, and set up a trust for cancer and heart diseases. NC has also promised to reduce congestion in cities like Srinagar and Jammu and Kashmir and provide free education to all women up to university level and to all men up to college level.
It is worth noting that elections will be held in three phases for the 90 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir. The elections will begin on September 18 and end on October 1. The results will be declared on October 4.
