‘I was removed from MasterChef for asking 1 rupee more than Akshay Kumar’: Sanjeev Kapoor reveals

Renowned celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor has revealed that he was removed from MasterChef for asking just 1 rupee more than Akshay Kumar. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sanjeev Kapoor said that during season one, MasterChef approached him and as soon as he started talking to the makers of the show, they told him that they had already signed another judge.

I was surprised to hear that

Sanjeev Kapoor said, ‘I was surprised to know this. I was curious to know who could be a bigger judge than me. Then I came to know that it was Akshay Kumar.’ Chef Sanjeev Kapoor said that the makers of the show told me that we have signed Akshay but we want you too in the show. I told them that very good, I am very happy.

I wanted 1 rupee more than Akshay

Sanjeev Kapoor said that I had put a condition in front of the makers to be a part of the show. I had told them that I would take one rupee more than Akshay Kumar. Sanjeev Kapoor said, ‘The makers were shocked when I said this. They asked me, more than Akshay Kumar? I said yes because this is my field. They refused to accept my condition.’

I became a part of the show on my own terms

Sanjeev Kapoor said that in the later seasons, the makers of the show contacted me because they wanted to replace Akshay with someone else. Even at that time, I maintained my conditions, although the makers told me that the same condition cannot be applied now because Akshay is not a part of the show.

Sanjeev Kapoor said, ‘So I signed the show and did a few seasons but then I had a shortage of time so I left the show.’ Sanjeev Kapoor said that he had accepted to be a part of the show on his own terms.
