Muzaffarnagar: Swami Yashveer leads campaign to remove ‘Sangam’ from Muslim’s restaurant signage

New Delhi: A heated controversy is unfolding in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar over a restaurant’s signage. The board displaying the name ‘Sangam Bhojanalaya’ at Salim’s restaurant will be removed tomorrow, following objections from Swami Yashveer Maharaj. Swami Yashveer Maharaj, known for his previous controversial demands, had earlier called for the installation of a ‘nameplate’ during the Kanwar Yatra, which led to the Supreme Court imposing a stay on the matter.

Swami Yashveer Maharaj has criticized the management of Salim’s restaurant in a video statement, urging the people of Muzaffarnagar to take action. He called on the “brave hearts” of Muzaffarnagar to protest against the Muslim-owned restaurant ‘Sangam Shudh Bhojanalay’, which has retained its name despite objections. Maharaj further stated that Salim has responded with defiance, stubbornly refusing to change the name and even issuing a challenge to anyone who opposes his decision.

He emphasized, “We will not tolerate any disrespect towards Sanatan Dharma. It is time to act. You must go in large numbers and remove the Sangam name from the board.” Maharaj clarified that while the Supreme Court ruled that no one is required to name their establishment after themselves, it did not permit the use of Hindu deities’ names for Muslim-owned businesses.

Swami Yashveer Maharaj has called upon followers to gather at 11 AM on September 7 to remove the ‘Sangam’ name from the board at Salim’s restaurant. The call to action reflects ongoing tensions and religious sensitivities in the region, with Maharaj insisting on the removal of the name he deems offensive to Hindu beliefs.
