Apple unveils iPhone 16, 16 Plus: Enhanced cameras to AI-powered features

New Delhi: Apple has officially introduced its latest smartphones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, on Monday. While these new models maintain the familiar design language of their predecessors, they come with notable upgrades, including a refined camera system and the promise of Apple Intelligence via a software update.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus retain the design essence of previous models but feature a redesigned rear camera module with vertically aligned lenses. The LED flash has been repositioned from the camera island to the back panel, streamlining the design. A significant addition is the new “Action” button, which replaces the traditional Alert Slider. This customizable button can be programmed to perform various functions, offering users enhanced control. Additionally, the “Capture” button, dedicated to camera shutter functionality, now doubles as a capacitive trackpad, enabling gesture controls for zoom and other settings.

Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature familiar display sizes of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively. Despite maintaining these sizes, the models have slightly reduced overall dimensions due to thinner bezels. The Dynamic Island notch design remains, but the devices continue to use a 60Hz refresh rate, without the ProMotion technology found in higher-end models.

Apple Intelligence, the company’s advanced AI technology, will be introduced through a software update scheduled for October. The new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 chip and equipped with 8GB of RAM, ensuring robust performance and support for AI-driven features.

The upgraded dual-camera system on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus includes a 48MP main sensor. The ultrawide camera now boasts a brighter f/2.2 aperture and autofocus capabilities, improving low-light performance and macro photography.

The iPhone 16 starts at $799, while the iPhone 16 Plus will also be available from the same day. Pre-orders begin immediately, with the official launch scheduled for September 20.
