The First Planet received for Kerala is “ Pattazhy Planet 5178” and First Keralite who got Minor Planet is Dr. Sainudeen Pattazhy has been Internationally accepted and recognized by the America Book of Records.
In 2008, a small planet with an area of 8 km was given the name Pattazhy Graham 5178 by NASA and the International Astronomical Union after respecting the request that it is enough to give the name of the village where he was born instead of his own name. Out of the 17 people who have received the name of the planet so far in India, 16 have received the planet in their own name. It is the first time in history that a planet in space has been named after a village in India.
In UPSC, PSC examinations many people answer Vainu Bapu, a native of Thalassery, to the question of the first person to get the name of a planet in Kerala. His place of birth was in Chennai. Although he is the son of a Malayali, he was born, brought up and studied in Chennai. This fact has been accepted by the American scientific community. Dr. Sainudeen Pattazhy authored 20 books and obtained 6 patents. For 25 years, he has been working in scientific and environmental researches, environmental literacy activities, social and cultural fields.
