New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is contesting her first election from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. She filed her election affidavit on Wednesday. The affidavit shows that Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra jointly own movable and immovable assets worth Rs 77.55 crore.
According to the details of the affidavit, Priyanka has movable assets worth Rs 4.25 crore, which includes Rs 52,000 in cash, Rs 3.67 lakh in three bank accounts, mutual fund investments worth Rs 2.25 crore and gold and silver worth Rs 1.45 crore.
Priyanka has also declared immovable assets worth Rs 7.74 crore, which includes four acres of inherited agricultural land in New Delhi, which she shares with her brother Rahul, and a residential building worth Rs 5.64 crore in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh.
Priyanka has total assets worth Rs 11.99 crore
Priyanka has declared total assets worth Rs 11.99 crore. Apart from these assets, she also has liabilities of Rs 15.75 lakh. Her husband Robert Vadra has movable assets worth Rs 37.92 crore, which includes Rs 2.18 lakh in cash and immovable assets worth Rs 27.64 crore, which totals Rs 65.56 crore. His immovable assets include four commercial properties in Gurgaon and Noida. His liabilities are Rs 10.03 lakh.
Priyanka has not declared any assets or liabilities for her dependents. Her brother Rahul had declared assets worth Rs 20.4 crore, including movable assets worth Rs 9.25 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 11.15 crore, for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Where does Priyanka Gandhi’s income come from?
Priyanka’s sources of income include rent, interest from banks and income from investments, while Vadra’s sources include rent, income from business and investments. The Income Tax Department had initiated reassessment proceedings against Priyanka for the year 2012-13 and passed a reassessment order in 2019 demanding Rs 15.75 lakh. An appeal has been filed in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) against that order and 20% of the tax demand or Rs 3.15 lakh has been compulsorily paid by CAT. However, refunds of subsequent years have also been adjusted to the extent of Rs 7.97 lakh, taking the total dues to Rs 11.12 lakh. Currently, the appeal is pending before the CAT.
The highest income in 2019-20 in five years
Priyanka has declared a total income of Rs 46.39 lakh for 2023-24 in her income tax return. In the last five years, her highest income was Rs 69.32 lakh in 2019-20, while the lowest income was Rs 19.89 lakh in 2020-21.
The Income Tax Department has also initiated reassessment proceedings against Vadra for various amounts ranging from Rs 2.39 crore to Rs 24.16 crore from 2010-11 to 2020-21. Appeals have been filed against the reassessment orders and are pending before CAT. However, the Income Tax Department had passed an order for the assessment year 2015-16 in 2018, demanding Rs 1.8 crore. An appeal has also been filed against this order and is pending before CAT.
According to his income tax return, Vadra has shown his total income for 2023-24 as Rs 15.09 lakh. His total income in 2019-20 was Rs 55.58 lakh, which was the highest in the last five years. The lowest income was shown in 2021-22 at Rs 9.04 lakh.
Priyanka has also declared three pending FIRs from 2019, 2022 and 2023, under sections 420, 469, 188, 269 and 270 of the IPC and sections 9 and 15 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
