Online shopping on Diwali? Know how to avoid cyber fraud, government’s advice

This year Diwali will be celebrated on 31 October in India. On the occasion of this festival, people have started shopping online for their friends and relatives. However, during this time scammers who commit online fraud have also become active. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued an advisory to citizens to avoid these scams. 

According to media reports, the government has given some suggestions to avoid fraud during online shopping. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has advised that it is important to check the identity of the caller before picking up any call. 

Be cautious of unknown callers

According to CERT-In’s advice, scammers often try to scare people through social engineering. Therefore, avoid taking hasty decisions in any situation.

Do not share personal information

  • Instead of ignoring any suspicious activity, report it.

Do not click on unknown links even by mistake

Avoid clicking on any attachments or files from unknown email addresses. If you are asked by someone to download an app on your phone, do not do so. If you are downloading an app on your phone, always use the official platform, such as Play Store. This way you can keep your device safe.
