Mahindra Launches New Electric SUVs: BE 6e and XEV 9e Set to Revolutionize the Market

Mahindra has taken a major step forward in India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution with the launch of two flagship electric SUVs: the BE 6e and XEV 9e. These new vehicles are built on Mahindra’s innovative INGLO architecture, a design that showcases the company’s commitment to shaping the future of mobility through advanced technology, performance, and design.

Unlike many electric cars that are retrofitted with electric powertrains, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are “born electric,” meaning they were designed from the ground up as electric vehicles. This gives them a futuristic appeal and the potential for outstanding performance.

As the largest SUV manufacturer in India, Mahindra is targeting lifestyle-focused customers with the launch of these new electric models. The BE 6e is priced at Rs 18.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e comes with a price tag of Rs 21.90 lakh.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director at Mahindra & Mahindra, shared that the company’s strategy revolves around creating accessible lifestyle products that inspire aspiration, saying, “The Indian market is no longer about a specific price point… Our focus is on making high-performance, tech-rich vehicles that appeal to lifestyle buyers.”

Mahindra’s electric vehicles are designed to attract customers looking for the latest technology and performance. Jejurikar noted that the market for electric vehicles is expanding to include people who seek a unique driving experience, regardless of whether the market is highly developed or not.

The BE 6e and XEV 9e are built on the company’s INGLO platform, and Mahindra has invested Rs 4,500 crore in these EVs. These vehicles will compete with mid-size internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric SUVs such as the Tata Curvv.ev and Hyundai Creta.

Production for the BE 6e and XEV 9e is expected to begin between February and March, with an initial production target of 90,000 units annually. The company is also aiming to export these vehicles to right-hand drive markets. Mahindra plans to release three to five additional electric vehicle models based on the INGLO platform by FY28.

With its sights set on becoming a lifestyle brand, Mahindra has no intentions of expanding into CNG-powered vehicles. Jejurikar explained, “Our brand is all about performance and the thrill of driving. We don’t think we can offer that with CNG, so we’re not targeting fuel-efficient products or fleet customers. We want to cater to those seeking cutting-edge technology and driving excitement.”
