How soon to remarry after spouse dies? Virginia man charged with wife’s murder over Google search history

Naresh Bhatt has been charged with murdering his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, who disappeared on July 29. The disturbing evidence, including online searches and blood found in their home, suggests foul play, but her body has yet to be recovered.

Virginia: Naresh Bhatt, a 33-year-old resident of Manassas Park, Virginia, has been charged with murder in connection with the disappearance of his wife, a 28-year-old native of Nepal. Disturbing details have emerged, including Bhatt’s online searches for ‘how soon can you remarry after a spouse’s death’ shortly after Mamta went missing on July 29. Prosecutors allege that he made suspicious purchases and exhibited troubling behavior in the days following her disappearance. Despite extensive investigations, Mamta’s body has yet to be found.

Court records indicate that Bhatt has been charged with two felonies in the Prince William County Circuit Court murder and defiling a body. Despite Mamta being reported missing on August 5 after she failed to show up for work, her body has yet to be found.  The investigation has uncovered significant evidence suggesting foul play. A Virginia grand jury indicted Bhatt based on findings that included suspicious purchases and troubling online searches in the days following Mamta’s disappearance.

Prosecutors allege that in April, just months before Mamta was reported missing, Bhatt searched for topics such as ‘How long does it take to get married after a spouse dies,’ ‘What happens to debt after a spouse dies,’ and ‘What happens if a spouse disappears in Virginia.’ These searches have raised serious concerns about his mindset leading up to the incident.

Furthermore, evidence revealed that Bhatt purchased three knives at a local Walmart, with two of them still unaccounted for. Prosecutors assert that he discarded a bloodstained bath mat and trash bags.

Mamta Kafle Bhatt was presumed dead shortly after her disappearance was reported. Naresh Bhatt, her husband, claimed they were separating but provided inconsistent explanations about her whereabouts and delayed reporting her missing.  He was arrested on August 22 following a search of their home, where significant blood evidence was found, suggesting foul play. DNA linked to Mamta was discovered in their residence, indicating she may have been killed and possibly dismembered. Despite Bhatt’s defense arguing that she is still alive, the evidence against him continues to grow, including surveillance footage of him disposing of trash bags.
