New Delhi: Senior Congress party leader and MP Shashi Tharoor seems to be angry with the party leadership. According to sources, in a recent meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, Tharoor expressed dissatisfaction over his role in the party. Tharoor openly questioned what his role is in the party and why he is being sidelined. However, during the discussion, Rahul Gandhi refused to give any concrete assurance on any of Tharoor’s complaints or suggestions.
The growing distance between Congress and Shashi Tharoor is becoming a new challenge for the party. If it is not resolved soon, this dispute can affect the party’s strategy and performance in the upcoming elections.
Angry Shashi Tharoor asked- Can anyone tell me my role?
During the meeting, Tharoor raised several issues including his neglect in Parliament, the manner in which he was expelled from the All India Professional Congress (AIPC) and his role in state politics. Tharoor said that he is capable of leading the party in Parliament, but he is not being given a chance. He also asked Rahul whether the party wants him to focus on Kerala politics, but Rahul Gandhi avoided giving a clear answer to this.
Differences with the Congress leadership
Differences between Tharoor and the party’s top leadership have surfaced earlier as well. Tharoor has been criticised earlier for taking a different view from the Congress’ stand on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit and his meeting with former US President Donald Trump. His recent article praising the industrial development in Kerala under the LDF government further fuelled discontent within the party. Many party leaders consider this article to be against the Congress.
