New Delhi: Many anti-BJP parties had formed India Alliance to compete with NDA. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had made a lot of efforts for this. Ultimately the result remained the same. Many faces came forward to lead this alliance, including Nitish Kumar himself, TMC chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi. The discussion remained just a discussion and no result came out of it. Now once again there is talk about leadership, in which SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is being talked about.
After electoral defeats in many states, voices started rising from within the allies of India Alliance from across the country. Most of the allies targeted Congress and said that this alliance is now losing its importance. This is happening because of the Congress party. In Delhi, due to the two alliance partners Congress and AAP contesting the elections separately, BJP has got a spectacular victory in the state. Similarly, in Haryana also Congress and AAP contested the elections separately and there too BJP got a spectacular victory contrary to expectations.
The conflict between Congress and AAP in both these states started affecting the future of India Alliance. Voices started rising from the allies that a big leader should be on the post of coordinator in the alliance. The biggest name in this was West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has also openly expressed her desire to play the role of coordinator. Then in Maharashtra, alliance allies Shiv Sena Uddhav faction and Sharad Pawar’s NCP also raised questions on the attitude of Congress. Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah also raised questions about the future of the alliance. During the Delhi elections, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had even demanded the ouster of Congress from the India Alliance.
Amidst all this, now the name of a new face is being discussed for the coordinator side of India Alliance. He is SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. A big leader of SP, Ravidas Mehrotra has said that Akhilesh Yadav has emerged as the biggest leader in UP. SP is the second largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha. It has 37 MPs. In such a situation, we want Akhilesh Yadav to be given the post of coordinator of India Alliance.
