Raipur: A major case of getting work done and payment of Rs 855 crores without tender has come to light in the Public Works Department. The Chief Engineer of the department has recommended filing an FIR and immediate suspension. All the divisions of Raipur including Dhamtari, Durg, Bemetara, Bridge Division Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh, Electrical Mechanical Raipur Bilaspur and Korba have been exposed in this case. The Executive Engineers of all these places have been sent notices and have been directed to submit their reply by April 10. This is considered to be the biggest scam in the Public Works Department after the formation of the state.
PWD Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Bhatfari has said in the notice issued that this matter has come to light on the complaint of Ganesh Kewat, a resident of Kushalpur, Raipur. In which an FIR is to be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the Executive Engineer who got the work of Rs 855 crore done without tender.
Chief Engineer Bhatfari has said in the letter that the Executive Engineers of all the four divisions of Raipur, Bridge Division and the divisions of the said districts are under the scope of investigation. The Executive Engineers will have to submit a detailed report of the non-contracted works done without inviting tenders, work-wise, item-wise, cost and payment and information about pending bills in the Chief Engineer’s office by April 10. Along with issuing notice to the Executive Engineers on March 7, the Chief Engineer has also sent a copy to PWD Secretary Kamalpreet regarding filing a case against them and suspension.
