Mamata Government is responsible for the entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday attacked the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal while responding to the discussion on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha. After this, the House approved the bill. The minister questioned the policies of the Trinamool Congress government regarding the entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas into the country.

Amit Shah accused the West Bengal government of not cooperating in border security and said that the problem of infiltration has increased due to the inaction of the state government. He strongly criticized the lack of cooperation in fencing the border and the alleged efforts to grant citizenship to the infiltrators.

He said, “India’s border with Bangladesh is 2,216 km. Out of this, 1,653 km has been fenced, while 563 km is still open. Out of this, 112 km is marked by rivers, mountains etc., where fencing cannot be done. The work of fencing the remaining 450 km is pending because the West Bengal government is not giving land for it. The Union Home Secretary has held seven meetings with the Chief Secretary of Bengal. Whenever fencing work is done, the workers of the ruling party indulge in hooliganism and raise religious slogans.”

The Home Minister said, “Be it Bangladeshi infiltrators or Rohingyas, earlier they used to enter India through Assam when the Congress was in power there. Now they enter through West Bengal where the Trinamool Congress is in power. Who gives them Aadhaar cards, citizenship? All the Bangladeshis caught have Aadhaar cards from 24 Parganas district. You (Trinamool) issue Aadhaar cards and they come to Delhi with voter cards. In 2026, the BJP government will be formed in West Bengal and we will put a stop to this. It is only because of the mercy of the Bengal government that infiltrators are in the country.”
Amit Shah said that this bill is necessary to strengthen the security and citizenship system of the country. After the passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha, it will now be introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Through this bill, the government aims to stop illegal immigration and control the entry of foreign citizens.
