Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings are going through a bad phase in the current season. Chennai Super Kings are 10th in the IPL 2025 points table with 2 wins and 5 losses in seven matches so far. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have signed young South African international player Dewald Brevis for the remaining matches of IPL 2025. Brevis has been included in the team in place of fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction Dewald Brevis was not signed by any team, but now as a replacement, Chennai Super Kings have added him to the team for Rs 2.2 crore. Dewald Brevis may have played only a few matches for South Africa, but he came into the limelight a few years ago. He was compared to the legendary AB de Villiers. He has played a total of 10 matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Apart from this, he also represents MLC and South Africa 20 (SA20).
Dewald Brevis is the second player to join Chennai Super Kings as a replacement in the current IPL season. Earlier, Mumbai’s young player Ayush Mhatre has been signed in place of regular captain Rituraj Gaikwad. Now Chennai Super Kings’ next match is against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on April 20.
21-year-old Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20 matches so far, in which his strike rate is 144.93. He has scored consistently in List-A and first-class matches. He was also in very good form in SA20 earlier this year. He scored a total of 291 runs in 12 matches for MI Cape Town in SA20 this year at a strike rate of 184.18.
