Notice to two resorts in international sex trafficking racket in Goa

Panaji: The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mapusa in North Goa has served show cause notices to two resorts for allegedly allowing the premises to be used for an international sex trafficking racket. Deputy Collector and SDM Gurudas S.T. Desai has asked the resort owners to respond to the notice. The hearing will take place on September 28. If no response is given, an order to seal the premises will be passed. Last week, Goa Police had asked the SDM to seal two resorts for allegedly using the premises for an international sex trafficking racket.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi had said that Anjuna police had written to the Sub Divisional Magistrate to take action. Dalvi said, two resorts were used as brothels. Action has been demanded against both those resorts. The SDM has the power to seal these premises under Section 18 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Goa Police busted an international sex trafficking racket and arrested two Kenyan women, saving five women. Later on Tuesday, a case was registered against two more people in this connection. Sex racket busted due to efforts of Anjuna Police and NGO. All five rescued women are natives of Kenya. He has been kept in a shelter home in Merces.

Police said young, educated and vulnerable Kenyan women were falsely promised jobs in the hospitality industry by agents working on behalf of Goa-based traffickers. After being brought to India, police said, smugglers confiscated the women’s passports and visas and forced them into prostitution by threatening them with violence. The racket, police said, is a close-knit group linked to smuggling duo Maria and Vilkista, which operated largely online, leveraging escort websites to attract clients.
