The incident took place in central Mumbai, where the police has arrested the accused who, after crushing a 73-year-old woman with a car last week, took her to the hospital to prove his sanity and tried to prove that the incident was just an accident. Police have said that Pushpa Dhanji Kenny, who had set out to go to the temple in Sion in central Mumbai, was hit by a car while crossing the road.
Giving information, an official said that the accused Ismal Ansari claimed about the incident that while crossing the road on September 10, the woman suddenly fainted and fell in front of his car. But when the CCTV footage was examined, the truth came out. The police also informed that after hitting the elderly woman with his car, the accused called her daughter from the woman’s mobile and told that after feeling dizzy. She had fallen on the road and he is taking her to Zion Hospital.
Police said that the daughter of the elderly woman is the chief booking clerk in Central Railway. According to the officer, the accused asked Kenny’s daughter to reach the hospital and when the woman’s daughter reached the hospital, she thanked the accused for providing timely help to her mother. However, the very next day after this incident, Kenny died during treatment and was cremated.
Giving further information about the case, an officer of Sion police station said that when the CCTV footage of the concerned area was scrutinized last Saturday, it was found that Ansari had hit the elderly woman Kenny with his car. The officer also showed this footage to Kenny’s son and the car driver. According to the police, on the basis of the complaint received from Kenny’s son, the Sion police station has registered a case against Ansari and arrested him.
