The government has announced a high-level inquiry. Minister Hasan Mushrif explained that most of the dead are those suffering from serious diseases.
24 patients, including 12 newborn babies, died in the last 24 hours at the Government Medical College in Nanded. 12 people were treated for snake bite and other ailments. The dean of the hospital himself admitted that there were not enough drugs and staff. Dean said that the government’s supply of medicines had stopped and efforts to procure them from outside did not work out. A month and a half ago, eighteen patients died in a 24-hour period in Utane’s municipal hospital, which led to a huge protest.
