New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh arrested in Delhi liquor policy corruption case. After a ten-hour long raid and interrogation, the Enforcement Directorate recorded the arrest of Sanjay Singh MP. The ED team reached Sanjay Singh’s residence around 7 am. The arrest was recorded after several hours of investigation.
With this, Sanjay Singh has become the third AAP leader to be arrested in the Delhi liquor policy corruption case. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in February in the case. Meanwhile, the MP was arrested and taken away during a huge protest by AAP workers.
The arrest of the AAP leader sparked a huge protest from the workers. Following the protest, the Delhi Police had set up barricades in front of Sanjay Singh’s residence. However, the activists pushed the barricades and protested. With this, more central forces were deployed on the spot. Meanwhile, there was a clash between activists and police in front of the house. Following this, the protestors were taken into police custody and removed.
Meanwhile, AAP has responded that Modi’s hunt is fearing electoral defeat. AAP also responded that the arrest was a political countermeasure. The case was registered in the backdrop of allegations of corruption related to the Delhi government’s liquor policy of 2012-22 and the CBI started an investigation. Then the government had to withdraw the liquor policy. In April, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was interrogated for nine hours in connection with the case.
The CBI found that there was interference by the liquor companies in the policy making and there was a situation where the establishments were getting 12 percent profit. The CBI also alleged that the liquor lobby known as ‘South Group’ paid huge bribes for this. The CBI also claims that out of the 12 percent profit, 6 percent went to public servants through middlemen. The ED is investigating a case related to money laundering.
