Amethi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is always on BJP’s radar. In the election rally, someone calls him Rahul Baba and someone surrounds him by calling him a prince. When it comes to Amethi, a traditional seat of Congress, how can Union Minister Smriti Irani leave this opportunity? She is seen repeatedly trying to corner Rahul Gandhi.
The activism of BJP candidate Smriti Irani has, albeit unwittingly, brought Rahul back to the electoral center. In fact, in every meeting, Smriti has put Rahul’s question to the common people by targeting him, leveling allegations, calling him a fugitive and blaming the Gandhi family. This step of her has started a new debate on Rahul somewhere in Amethi. It is too early to predict where this debate will take. But the field which was deserted without the Congress candidate during the election season has now started exciting with the name of Rahul.
Despite all this, Congress has still not revealed its cards regarding Amethi. BJP is more worried than Congress about who will contest the elections from there. Political experts say that BJP’s Smriti is a strong candidate in Amethi, so what does she have to do with the Congress candidate. Anyone can stand there. They should have confidence in themselves.
BJP is neither understanding the meaning of Congress’s silence nor Rahul Gandhi’s strategy. In fact, in 2019, Rahul Gandhi contested elections from Amethi as well as Wayanad in Kerala. He faced a crushing defeat from BJP candidate Smriti Irani from Amethi, whereas he reached Parliament after winning from Wayanad. This time also Rahul is still in the fray from Wayanad. Doubts remain over his contesting elections from Amethi. Sometimes the name of Priyanka Gandhi and sometimes Robert Vada is being discussed from here. To settle the equation, brainstorming is also going on for a local candidate. Amidst all this, Congress is not ready to say anything openly. The silence of the party is going to increase the dilemma of the workers.
Rahul Gandhi lost the election from Amethi. Right now the new political destination is Wayanad. Meanwhile, his connection with Amethi was almost severed. Neither joy nor enthusiasm was seen among the Congress leaders during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra which reached here on 20th February. In the midst of parliamentary elections, when BJP has fielded Smriti Irani and has started barricading, the churning over the candidate is going on in Congress. However, nomination for the fifth phase in Amethi is going to start from April 26. The last date for nomination is 3 May and voting is on 20 May. Amidst all this, despite staying away from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi is again in the news for the last 15 days. This is not the initiative of Congress, but the result of the strategy of BJP candidate Smriti Irani.
