Most people transact money online. There are several transaction platforms for this. Among them, Google Pay has introduced convenience fees for bill payments such as electricity and cooking gas.
These charges will be applicable to users making payments through debit and credit cards. It is reported that a fee of 0.5% to 1% of the transaction value will be charged along with GST. Meanwhile, reports say that there will be no fee for direct transactions from a bank account linked to UPI.
This is not the first time that Google Pay has imposed a fee. Last year, a convenience fee of Rs 3 was charged for mobile recharges. Google Pay is the second largest payment method in the country, accounting for 37% of UPI transactions.
PhonePe is the first. PhonePe also charges convenience fees for such transactions. Paytm also has them. Paytm charges from one rupee to forty rupees.
